Customs Clearance for Packages: What You Need to Know

Customs clearance is the process of inspecting and controlling mail shipments crossing Ukraine’s customs border. It includes evaluating the contents of the package, determining any applicable customs duties, and checking whether the items comply with customs regulations.
When is customs clearance required?

Customs control is necessary in the following cases:
When the value of the shipment exceeds the duty-free limit, which is currently €150.
When the package contains items that are restricted or prohibited for shipping.
When customs authorities require additional information about the value or contents of the package.

What documents might be required?

Invoice — a document that confirms the payment for the item and includes detailed purchase information.
Proof of item value — a bank statement in PDF format.
Recipient’s identification document — Ukrainian internal passport, international passport, driver’s license, or other ID documents.

What happens if you don’t submit the documents?

If the documents are not provided or are submitted incorrectly, the following consequences are possible:

Delay of the package at customs for an indefinite period.
Higher customs duties may be charged if customs authorities determine the item’s value on their own.
Return of the package to the sender if the duty is not paid or the item is prohibited for import.
Fines or confiscation in case of customs regulation violations.

Important Details:

Clients do not fill out any customs documents themselves. We handle everything for them.
The customs duty notification is sent by email and includes the amount and payment details.
No document translation is required. Customs accepts bank statements from Ukrainian banks and invoices in English without any issues.
